16th-20th November 2009 (Full week)
When I first came to work experience I was pretty nervous and didn’t really talk to the children, but as the week went on I got more confident, not just talking to the children but playing football with them and talking them through the stretches and everything. I also learnt a lot about business and that it’s not just about the football, it is also about various things e.g. making sure you keep the children and also their parents updated with the sessions and everything.
The last day was the best of all I got to train with the elite squad and I also learnt some new warm up sessions. It was a very enjoyable experience playing with them and seeing how they play compared to other teams I have seen and also been with.
Overall it was a great week of work experience, the only thing that I would wish is that it could have gone on for 2 weeks!
If anyone wants to get into coaching I would recommend you go and see Sav he will teach you a lot and also turn you into a great coach.
Thanks for a great week Sav I really had fun and hope everything carry’s on going well with the business and yourself, and also hope to see you sometime in the near future.
Luke Matthew
Westfield Community Technology College |
Luke started the week a little tentatively …but soon got into the swing of things. It took him a couple of days to let his guard down a little and started opening up to me about school and his sporting life. He also grew in confidence around the children as the week progressed.
Luke says that he would like to work in the sports industry when he leaves higher education. On this showing, he has every chance in doing so. Again, as other students have done in the past, Luke has requested to come back and assist on various sessions run by Skill 7. He’ll be more than welcome to do so. We’ve even had children ask for him to return …just a day after his placement ended!

Sam Slade-Edmonson
|
9th-13th November 2009 (Full week)
When I first go my work placement I was over the moon that it was going to be at a sports coaching business. A week later I injured my knee and realised my time might not be as exciting as I first thought.
On my first day, I turned up on crutches ready to see what I would be doing. I came in the door and was greeted by Sav who seemed quite safe. We then sat in the office and he explained what he did and how the business was run including the accounting.
Throughout the week we visited various schools and coached lots of different kids in the PPA cover lessons and after school clubs and seeing the different abilities. Each session, Sav would ask me to pick a top player, based on attitude, commitment, and application, not-so-much on their ability but more on their hard work.
On Friday evening we coached the Skill 7 Elite group. These players were really good and showed me that with the right coaching average players can be turned into decent footballers.
All-in-all, the week was really fun, especially the coaching. I couldn’t participate in full but owe a big cheers to Sav for allowing me to help out for the week.
Sam Slade-Edmondson
Rickmansworth School |
Sam was a willing work experience student. Unfortunately, he was unable to perform to the best of his ability as he injured his knee a week before his placement started. He did, however, give it his best shot and participated as much as he could under the difficult circumstances.
Overall a decent work experience student who has requested to come back, once fully fit, and assist on some of our extra curricular activities.

5th-9th October 2009 (Full week)
Having known Savva since I was about 7 years old I knew this week was going to be great fun but also it was going to be hard work with all the effort he puts in!
On the first day it was straight into office work and Sav had us preparing all the envelopes for the holiday courses, only about 1000! This showed me how all the little things in running a business are so important because if I did a stamp out of place it would be a bad representation of the organisation. After about 6 hours of this it was time for the football side of the business. We went out to our first primary school to run their after school club, which was good fun and a great standard of football. From this first session I realised that when coaching you really have to be tight on the behaviour side of football, which means they will enjoy it more but also makes the coaching a lot more fun.
The second day we got back on to the envelopes but didn’t have many more to do so I had a bit of a break after. We started coaching at 1 o’clock. As we turned up at the school Sav decided to stitch me and George up and said that we had to run the lesson ourselves and take a group each. This meant I really had to think on the spot but had an idea eventually. This really helped because I saw how when you’re running sessions you always have to have a new idea every time to make sure the children don’t get bored.
One day Sav showed us the accounting side of Skill 7, I couldn’t believe how confusing it all was, but when he explained it was so clear (probably down to the OCD though!) With this, I appreciated how much work he has to put in outside of the football and also how hard it’s going to be if I ever started my own business, so it was very helpful.
Overall it was an amazing week and I had a quality time! Also all the coaches and assistants I worked with were legends which made it even more fun. Cheers guys! Also big thanks to Sav for all the help he gave me and putting up with me for a week in the house, even though I did loads of DIY and he messed up my pizza! (It must’ve been some kind of joke! lol) Cheers!!
Angus
On my first day of work experience I learnt my first lesson on running a business. Presentation! I had to prepare letters for the half term making sure stickers where in the right place and the letters were folded in an exact way.
When we started training I learnt straight away the discipline Sav has over the children. On the second day Sav let us (me and Angus) take the P.E lesson. Afterwards he told us what we did wrong and how to improve. After taking the advice on board, I felt as if I improved on all of the other days.
On Friday I learnt all the behind the scenes work, realising that running a business isn’t as easy as it seems. Surprisingly I also improved my DIY skills and furnishing the house/office, but as Sav said, these placements are more like life experience not work experience!! Overall a great week!!
George
Kingshill School, Cirencester |
Angus Brereton & George Ford were absolutely brilliant work experience students, arguably the best we’ve had! The lads, obviously, had a head start on most other student having attended Skill 7 courses since the age of seven. Their hard work knew no bounds. From DIY to coaching, office work to refereeing, the two of them made the week a very enjoyable one for me. They got on well with all the children, and were even given their own group to undertake, individually, with my supervision.
Both George and Angus have a future in this industry, if they so wish to pursue one. They are both more than welcome back to assist/coach on future Skill 7 courses.

Gamuchirai Muzanechita
|
28th Sep - 2nd Oct 2009 (Full week)
Boy was I nervous when I took my first steps into Sav’s house! I became much calmer and more confident once he welcomed me in and explained to me the plan for the week.
During the course of the week, we visited various schools and coached numerous classes in sports such as Football, Handball, and Rounders. The children were great at every school! They seemed to have fun regardless of the sport being taught and were very enthusiastic about the sessions and about Sav.
All in all, I had a superb week, full of great fun …and all because of Sav.
Thanks mate, you are my new idol.
Gamuchirai Muzanechita
St Joan of Arc Catholic School |
Gamuchirai Muzanechita was a superb work experience student. He got on well with all the children, worked hard to ensure each session was organised, and was interested in every aspect of the business, including what the life of a director is like as a whole. Gamu, as he is affectionately known to his friends, would be a welcome addition to the Skill 7 coaching staff once he has the right qualifications. Overall, Gamu was a very impressive lad.

Elizabeth Talbot
|
21st-25th September 2009 (Full week)
For my week of, work experience, I had to play football, umpire football and encourage the children how to play football. Sometimes I had to look after children who were upset which I found quite challenging. Working in this environment meant that I met a lot, of new people and visited a number of new schools. This helped me because I had to travel to all the schools; I was not sitting in an office all day. I also learned how to bank and carry all the financial side of a business, as I have never done this before it was an interesting experience.
The last day was a full day, helping me see all the difficult points in a business including; banking, posting, (I had to pack a package to send of to the printers, it had to be spot on!) teaching and helping people train for football (whilst fitting in lunch). Although it was a long day it was enjoyable.
The whole week was a really, good experience and I learnt a lot throughout the week about different aspects of a business. Sav taught me a huge amount in a fun way and helped boost my confidence.
Thank you Sav.

Elizabeth Talbot was an absolute pleasure to have on placement. She was friendly, polite, inquisitive, hard-working, and actually interested in the coaching as she herself teaches sailing to children.
Elizabeth definitely has a future working with children and would welcome her involvement in future Skill 7 courses. There is just one thing …she is good but she need to believe in herself and her ability. Once she sorts out her ‘confidence issue’ she will be one the best upcoming coaches in the country!

Hadleigh De Vall
|
13th-17th July 2009 (Full week)
Upon starting the first day I was very nervous as I was afraid I’d be late for the 8am start! I was also nervous about meeting all the other coaching staff, but I needn’t have been as they were all very nice. They treated me with respect and as one of the group. I didn’t feel left out at all!
I the first day drew to a close, I was very happy with my days work and looking forward to the rest of the week. As the days went by I became more and more confident and thoroughly enjoyed working with the children at each and every school.
All the children obviously love the coaches at Skill 7 and it was no surprise that they had loads of kids on their sessions.
Taking my work experience at Skill 7 was a great choice as I couldn’t have wished for a better placement. Thanks!

Hadleigh grew in confidence by the day. He got involved in the office banter, worked well with the children, and held himself superbly at each and every school he visited. He definitely has a future in this industry if he wished to pursue it further.

9th July 2009 (One day work shadowing placement)
Today I had a really great day!
The other day I rang Sav and asked if I could come and do my work shadowing with him and Skill 7 …he said yes!
I really enjoyed learning how the system works and how much fun it could be. All the children enjoy playing football/sports with Skill 7, as do I!
I’m really glad I didn’t stay in bed all day!!

Jamie Cobb
|
6th-10th July 2009 (Full week)
I am glad a got a placement with Skill 7 because I really enjoyed the week with Sav and Chris who helped me with any misunderstandings or problems, of which there were very few.
I enjoyed travelling to different schools each day and help coach the little kids as I love playing football myself.
I think this experience will be helpful, as in the future, I would like to do something connected to sports, i.e. coaching, managing, etc…
Jamie Cobb
Kings Langley Secondary School |
Jamie worked hard all week and had to put in a number of earlier-than-normal starts as we had assemblies and meetings to attend.
Jamie has a future in the industry if he works hard to gain the necessary qualifications.

22nd-26th June 2009 (Full week)
I have really enjoyed myself at Skill 7 this week. Sav, Chris and all the coaches were very kind and helped me get over my first day nerves very quickly.
The coaching was fun and enjoyable and it’s been great working with all the different kids. Almost all were well behaved and a joy to teach and I would jump at the chance to do some more coaching for Skill 7, given the opportunity.
Once again I would like to thank Sav for giving me the opportunity to do work experience and for Chris for putting up with me most days!
Jake Coren
Parmiters School |
Jake was a quality work experience student. He picked things up very quickly and made many friends throughout the week. The coaches took to Jake the moment they met him and commented on how good he worked with the children.
Jake definitely has a future in this industry if he wishes to pursue a career in the sports coaching industry.

On the first day of my work experience with Skill 7 I was working at Bournehall Primary School and as I turned up to the school I can honestly say that I was very nervous …but as I shook Sav’s hand and saw how he was with the kids I knew that this week was going to be great …I was correct, the week was immense!
I can honestly say that I enjoyed every minute with Sav, Chris, David, and all the kids at the different primary schools we coached at.
Finally, I would like to say thank you to Sav for giving me the opportunity to work at Skill 7 and to all the staff for making me feel welcome. I feel very privileged to have worked at Skill 7. I DON’T WANT TO GO BACK TO SCHOOL IF THIS IS WHAT WORK IS ABOUT!!
